Improving Your Game – Choosing The Right Tools.
Golf can be one of the most enjoyable sports; however, it causes a lot of people unnecessary frustration. They watch professionals on television and see how easy they make everything look. They seem to hit every shot a mile and they never seem to miss a putt. However, most people do not realize that professionals do not simply go buy a set of clubs off the shelf of a golf shop and expect to play at the level they do. Instead, they go through rigorous testing until they find the equipment that best suits their playing style. There are several things that golfers need to evaluate when choosing the right tools to improve their game.
Loft
One of the key mistakes that amateurs make is trying to play the exact same driver that a professional plays. Professionals generate swing speeds near, or above, the 110 miles per hour mark, which allow the ball to achieve a tremendous amount of height and distance. However, amateurs usually have a swing speed between 80 and 100 miles per hour, which will require them to use a higher lofted driver. Most professionals use between an 8.5 degree and 9 degree driver, but most amateurs will need at least a 10.5 degree model.
Shaft
The shaft of all golf clubs can have a drastic effect on one’s playing ability. There are five levels of shaft stiffness, which include women’s, senior, regular, stiff and extra stiff. They also make graphite and steel shafts, which can also effect the club’s weight. Most amateurs will need a regular flex shaft, but many use a stiff shaft, which can affect ball flight and distance.
When people have the right tools, they will find golf becomes more enjoyable. Most shops offer custom-fitting, so when people buy new clubs they should take advantage of this service. People should always use the equipment that works best for them, not their favorite tour professional.
